352

Teaching students for the first time can be quiet an experience. Some are afraid of you, some are extrememly well behaved, and others will do whatever they can to test you. I've been on 4 Field experience trips for 352 and each class brings different challenges. Most of the students listen out of respect for their teacher, but some students want to push us as far as we can go. I think it is challenging as student teachers because you don't know how much authority you have. You can't tell the kids the will be punshied for misbehaving because you don't have the power to do that. You can't say they are going to fail because you have no control over their grades. I think that whenever I have my class it'll be much easier to control class management because the students will respect me and the ground rules will be set on the first day of classes.

  1. Wow sounds like fun! I will be taking 352 the second half of this spring semester and look forward to the student teaching aspect of the class. What I am not looking forward to is the lesson plans and the classroom management as you mentioned. I agree that having your own class would make life a lot easier because now you would have the authority to yell at kids and hold them accountable for their actions. I think confidence is the biggest factor in classroom management and kids can smell that fear if you have any immediately. If you have confidence kids will notice and be more prone to respecting you in my eyes. But no matter what there will always be those kids that push the envelope.

  2. I am also in 352 and my teaching experiences are something else! Some of the kids can be really rude, and some of the teachers don't even seem to care about their classes. The lesson plans are really long and time consuming, but everyone keeps telling me it will all be worth it. I believe them, plus this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, so I might as well get used to it. See you in the final week of class after spring break. I'm so looking forward to work load of that class ending.
